Elephant Waterfall is one of the three largest waterfalls in Lam Dong province, located in Nam Ban district, about 28 km southwest of Da Lat city. It is unclear when Elephant Waterfall first appeared, but its legendary stories are associated with the history of the development of this highland land and have made it a destination not to be missed when visiting Da Lat – Lam Dong.
The Legend of Elephant Falls
Legend has it that Elephant Waterfall is linked to the beautiful love story of K'ho boys and girls. She was the daughter of the mountain chief Jo Bieng, known for her beauty and melodic voice. She fell in love with the son of the chief of the neighboring village, a young man who was not only strong and muscular but also courageous, always ready to defend the village in battle. Before heading to the battlefield, they exchanged promises to marry on a mountain, but as time passed, he never returned. The distressed girl went to the mountain and sang earnestly, hoping for her lover's return. Tragically, he died on the battlefield. She couldn't accept this fact and continued singing until she was exhausted and collapsed. The herd of elephants that used to gather around her, hearing her sing for a long time, were petrified. Touched by her sincere love, the mountain god wept, and the tears turned into a cascade of petrified elephants. The K'ho people named the waterfall Lieng Ro woa Jo Bieng – the waterfall of petrified elephants before the iron-hearted love.
On beautiful days or holidays, young couples from Ta Nung commune and Nam Ban town often invite each other to Elephant Waterfall to confide in each other, enjoy the scenery, and reminisce about the faithful love story that has been handed down for generations.
Trekking to the Top of Elephant Waterfall
From the greeting gate, turning left leads to a 20m-long path with 145 winding steps that ascend to the top of the waterfall. Stone steps are built on craggy cliffs, surrounded by densely rooted old trees and cliffs covered with green moss, guiding you to a magical place: the top of Elephant Waterfall. From here, the panoramic view of the majestic waterfall, mountains, and highlands will appear right before your eyes through the mist, making all worries and chaos immediately disappear.

Although the entrance is a bit small, the interior space is quite large, with strangely shaped cliffs hidden in the deep dark space, evoking a creepy yet extremely interesting feeling.
