10 AMAZING PLACES IN HAI PHONG (VIETNAM) YOU SHOULD KNOW
A trip to northern Vietnam should always include a stop at Hai Phong, an important industrial center and seaport in the Red River Delta. Whether you travel to Hai Phong to seek out its beautiful architectural and cultural treasures or as a stop on the way to Ha Long Bay and beyond, don’t miss the opportunity to see what Hai Phong has to offer. In recent years, it has also gained popularity as a tourist destination. Hai Phong serves as both a destination of its own and a jumping point to Ha Long Bay, Cat Ba Island, and other area attractions.
1. Cat Ba Island
No tourist can ever visit Hai Phong without spending time at Cat Ba island which is pretty much the most famous attraction from Hai Phong! There are 367 islands in this stunning archipelago and Cat Ba stands out amongst all of them owing to its picturesque natural surroundings and calm weather which hovers around 25 degrees in summer. This is the perfect location if you want to go diving or swimming and there are three popular beaches for swimming that are frequented by many tourists because of the crystal clear water and seascape. Visiting this island is truly one of the most recommended things to do in Hai Phong Vietnam!

2. Lan Hạ Bay
Lan Ha Bay has become an attractive tourist destination thanks to the favor of nature with clear water beaches, old forests, and the oldest fishing villages in Vietnam that have remained until now. Lan Ha Bay is known as a bay located in the south of Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh) and east of Cat Ba Island (Hai Phong). Exactly, Lan Ha Bay is located around the Cat Ba archipelago. Unlike Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh, all the islands in Lan Ha Bay are covered with trees, even if they are just very small islands. Although not known by many tourists, Lan Ha Bay is considered one of the most beautiful bays of Vietnam with 4 dreamlike seasons. When the weather turns to autumn, it is also the time when Lan Ha Bay is at its most beautiful with light sunshine, not hot, gentle, and extremely attractive.
3. Do Son Beach
22 km (14 miles) from Hai Phong lie the three beaches of Do Son as well as the country’s only casino. What was once a popular resort area for the French is now popular among the Vietnamese—especially sun-seekers traveling from Hanoi. Relax on the white sand beaches, visit the remains of an ancient clay tower and Buddhist temple on Ngoc Son Mountain (including the famous temple bell that was submerged in water for several centuries after a large storm knocked it out of its place), and watch traditional buffalo fighting during the annual Buffalo Festival in September or October (you’ll want to arrive on the 9th day of the 8th month according to the lunar calendar to see the fun).
3. Tam Bac Lake and Flower Market (Quan hoa)
Enjoy a pleasant walk under the trees along the lake’s shore and visit the Flower Market on the eastern side of the lake. The flower market is comprised of five splendid arched-roof kiosks built-in 1941 by the French as a beautiful place in which to buy fresh flowers. Also within easy walking distance of the lake and market is a massive bronze statue of the female General Le Chan, ancient Vietnamese hero and founder of Hai Phong city.

4. Hon Dau island
This tourist area is located in the Do Son 3 area with beautiful natural scenery. It includes 2 parts, a natural beach, and an artificial beach. A high-end entertainment complex with a dinosaur park and aquarium park. Also, a luxury resort with villas that are designed in modern and traditional architectural style.

5. Elephant mountain
Elephant Mountain has located about 20km southwest of Hai Phong city center. From a distance, this attraction looks like a giant elephant lying on a large rice paddy field. On the way to conquering the mountain by climbing the stone steps, tourists can visit some fairy caves such as Long Tien cave, Nam Tao cave, Thong Voi cave with a lot of stalactites in different shapes of animals like dragons or tigers. The way up the mountain path is quite slippery and steep. Visitors need to be careful and well-prepared with suitable shoes.

6. Tuyet Tinh Coc - a fairy lake
Tuyet Tinh Coc in Hai Phong Vietnam located 25km northwest of the city center is a lake located among the rocky mountains. The two main colors of blue and white are the highlight of the tranquil scenery which is a great check-in place for those who are passionate about photography. Visiting this stunning lake is a great choice for a day of escaping the bustle of city life. Due to the relatively zigzag road, many small turns, visitors should go motorbike for convenience or rent a taxi to be safer.
7. Trang Kenh - Bach Dang relic complex
Trang Kenh - Bach Dang relic complex is located 20km northeast of the city center. This place is highly recommended for admiring which is made up of a unique system of limestone mountains, caves, and rivers. The relic was recognized as a national historical-cultural-scenic relic in 1962.
8. Hai Phong Opera House
Located in Hoang Van Thu street, this construction was built by the French according to the prototype of the Paris theater. Outside the theater has a large square with a beautiful flower garden and an artistic fountain. A lot of cultural events and artistic activities are organized here. The theater was recognized as a national monument in 2015.
9. Hang Kenh Temple
Hang Kenh temple is located in the Le Chan district, has an ancient ironwood architecture, arranged in the shape of a peacock. The sculpture art with 268 pieces of dragon-themed carvings is one of the most remarkable points to see here. In the temple, there are still many precious artifacts such as epitaphs inscribed with the names of the people who succeeded in the past, stele praising Ngo Quyen - a famous Vietnamese general who won the battle against northern invaders on the Bach Dang River.
10. Tuong Long Tower
Tuong Long tower, one of the most popular Haiphong attractions, is located on the top of Long Son hill in the Do Son 1 area. From a distance, the Tuong Long 9-floor tower is like a pen drawing on the blue sky. Visitors to Do Son spend time visiting Tuong Long tower to admire the historical relics of the port city and also to feel the tranquility of the soul.
